Pros

Princeton University offers several rewarding career positions, all in an exciting and challenging work environment. I have worked in government and industry before coming to Princeton and found that none of them compare to the opportunities that exist here for working across business unit lines for the improvement of the organization. I find that my current position is fulfilling and the tasks varied enough to keep me engaged, interested, and coming back for more. The university offers a rich variety of non-work activities including world renowned speakers and presentations, great sports teams, incredible art galleries, and a world class theater.

Cons

Well, sometimes parking can be a drag, but that is pretty much true at every other college or university that I have ever visited. If you are an administrator, you must accept that this is an educational organization and your customers are professors and students. Without them, you don't have a job. I was told once that students come to princeton because of the world class professors, not the world class administrators. So, get over yourself. Because of the decentralized nature of the campus, many projects that would be straight forward in industry require a bit more negotiation. I see this as a challenge, but others are worn down by the experience.

Pros

One gets lots of opportunity to interact with talented students and colleagues. Low workload during summer months. Lots of facilities for working mothers, including daycare, generous maternity leave, etc. Plenty of opportunities to make extra money through short-term projects and events organization. Good career advancement opportunities.

Cons

Lots of unnecessary work created by the fact that most departments have their own department-specific database and information protocols. It makes inter-departmental communication difficult. While the low-key summers are great, the uneven workload during the year means that the beginning of the fall semester is extraordinarily busy. New Jersey weather: need I say more?

Pros

beautiful campus, lots of great speakers including Pulitzer Prize winners

Cons

lack of ability to advance, small campus makes the traffic difficult and access to certain buildings or places to eat a trial. There is definitely a culture of if you didn't actual go to Princeton and were one of the chosen few then you're really not "in" and your ability to be promoted or even hired for any of the better positions is greatly restricted. It seems like if you went to Princeton they'll hire you for any position you desire regardless of your ability. The haves and the have-nots is quite apparent.
