The biggest con is that I hate feeling like I am constantly bragging when talking to friends and family about all of the perks at my "work".
I am going to turn what some would consider a con into a positive. At Pro Athlete, we do run a little lean but as an employee in the early stages of my career, I think this is a huge asset for an employee trying to grow and build his/her experience. In a smaller company, we have the ability to wear a ton of hats. I am gaining experience within my department, but am also very involved in other aspects of the company that really allow me to learn the entire workings of an entire business. At a major corporate company with thousands of employees, I would be in a silo and confined to only the workings of my specific role; thus not gaining as much experience. Because we are a smaller company, there may not be direct advancement within Pro Athlete, but wearing a lot of different hats and gaining organizational wide experience, any employee at Pro Athlete can very easily advance into a higher position at another company using all of the things we are able to learn and be involved in.
As far as pay goes, if we take into consideration our total compensation package, it would take another company to beat my current salary by about $15,000 to $20,000 to get me to my break even point as far as matching my salary. This takes into effect our 401K match, free health and dental insurance, free gym, free haircuts, free breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner, offer of charitable money, and any other perks/benefits that go into our total comp.
