Pros

Huge company so you have a broad range of departments to work in, it's like changing companies every time you change departments or business units. P&G has good benefits, decentralized decisionmaking, high level of responsibilities from day 1, mentoring program, tuition reimbursement, goal oriented evaluations (based on outcome and not how much time you work or other subjective reasons), 360 feedback (to help you know your strengths and weaknesses), and most importantly, P&G is a company that you can work for your entire life, most people do.

Cons

If you come in as an A&T (non management - Administrative & Technical) chances are you will never make it to management no matter how well you perform your job or what your educational background might be. Entry-level management positions are offered to recent grads of 4 year programs and masters degrees with no experience, yet, if you have these degrees and happened to start as an A&T, you have slim to none chance of getting into management. I know plenty of MBAs at P&G that are A&Ts, have been with the company for 10-20 years, have been top-rated and aren't promoted into Band1 (entry-level management). Basically: If you see "non-management" in the job description, DO NOT APPLY if you have any aspirations to management, especially in marketing. Marketing specialists NEVER become Associate Brand Managers, it just doesn't happen. ABMs start at Band2, so if A&Ts cannot make the jump to Band1, there is even less chance they can jump to a Band2 ABM role.

Pros

It is an incredible place to cut your teeth and learn the marketing trade. P&G values clarity of thinking in written format and formal team leadership. They will train you on this. It is a great place to open a lot of doors, and some roles are truly rewarding and fun. Good managers will provide a lot of ownership from the very get-go.

Cons

It is a careerist culture, the best are highly political. This company frequently moves on soundbites more than sound analysis. Leadership is aware of the crafting of messages, however it is a cultural problem that is highly difficult to break. It is still the way to get up in the organization. Managing your personal development ultimately falls to you. This adds value to being networked and politically savvy.

Pros

Having P&G on your resume makes you very marketable to other companies. There are some non traditional roles available for people with science backgrounds.

Cons

Short of having a Bachelors in Engineering you will be a second class citizen. The R&D system is truly flawed. People with bachelors or masters degrees in a scientific discipline come in 2 levels underneath those with bachelors degress in engineering. If you have a science background you will not come in as a manager (like your classmates in engineering will). All of the effort is put into developing engineers for leadership roles. People with science backgrounds are expected to be a pair of hands in the lab. You may luck up and get a manager who gives you the opportunity to do the type of work that the engineers get to do but expect to get paid $20-30K less for the same work. What they don't tell you when you are interviewing is that only a very small percentage of people with science backgrounds ever get the 2 promotions necessary to get them to the entry level position for an engineer. For the few who do, the average timing is 10 years. It is very common for a person with 15+ years with the company who came in with a bachelors/masters in science to be managed by someone with a bachelors in engineering who is right out of college. To add insult to injury, any degree that you obtain while working for P&G does not help you advance. The expectation is that the new degree will just enhance your abilities within your current role. Also, those coming in with a PhD in a scientific discipline will enter at the same level as a bachelors in engineering. (P&G loves their engineers!) On another note, you can also expect to spend your time imitating your competitors b/c the culture has gone away from taking the risks associated with being innovative and has instead gone to a copycat paradigm.
