Pros

1. Over 80 billion in revenue. Operates in nearly every country in the world. Over 20 brands with $1 billion in revenue. Few companies have these features. 2. High ethical standards. Good (however not exceptional) people work there. 3. Pretty good pay considering how easy and un-time consuming the jobs are and that Cincinnati is an affordable place to live.

Cons

1. Most brands at P&G were established between 1950-1990. The comapny claims you will be a "brand builder." That's not really true. You will be more of a "brand maintainer." 2. Innovation at P&G is opening up a Mr. Clean Car wash and extending a surface cleaner brand into a car wash franchise business. Swiffer is considered one of their most successful innovations in the last 15 years. I think it's roughtly $1B in revenue, so that is pretty impressive. 3. The culture is regimented. Get ready for a very specific promotion plan, that might be acceptable for many. But likely not acceptable for highly ambitious people. 4. MBAs are hired in at Band 2. Undergraduates are hired in at band 1. Highly intelligent, ambitious people are often highly bored by these jobs. In my view, jobs at P&G don't get interesting until about Band 4. If you are hired to be an Assistant Brand Manager from business school, it will take you 9 years on average to get promoted to an associate marketing director (band 4 in marketing.) That's when things get a little interesting. The jobs get really cool when you get promoted to General Manager of one of the brands. But those jobs are very hard to come by and it takes about 15 years of service before it's possible. 5. Most jobs are in Cincinnati, which a lot of people don't like. But if you like Cincinnati this is of course not a con.

Pros

Consistently good work atmosphere, with ample opportunity to go after different problems presented. Training is very well developed, and salary is a reflection of contribution to the company. Management pays attention to your performance and initiative, and there isn't a backstabbing atmosphere. Never felt like I was just a cog in the machine, although if that's your thing you can be one.

Cons

Process engineering can be hit or miss with people. You either can learn to overcome problems with other people or you'll bang your head into the wall if you have a rambo mentality

Pros

- If you get a good manager you are set. - Management has been pretty open to taking time off. - Pay and benefits are pretty decent as long as your ratings stay decent. - Recognition for hard work is good with the right management. - Potential to get a well rounded view of the company due to the many role transitions

Cons

- Your success or failure is completely dependent on what kind of relationship you have with your manager. - Too many politics need to be played just to get promoted or even get a good rating. - Ratings are NOT based on the feedback you receive from your "customers" it is largely based on the political game and if your "higher up" feels like battling for your during ratings. - If you wind up being rated the lowest no raises are given, yet, your benefit costs continue to rise. - Company boasts having work/life balance and opportunities to work a variety of flexible work arrangements that won't penalize you at ratings. However, this is all dependent on if your direct manager lets you actually take advantage of this "benefit" the company offers. - While the pay can be good, it can take a nose dive when you factor in the work that has to come home with the people stuck in high stress jobs - Conflicting guidance from management - first they want everything to tie out to the penny, then, they say to get data faster and not worry about tying everything out, then, they go back to wanting everything to tie out to the penny. Make up your mind. - Interns get hired directly into management positions rather than promoting employees who have been here working in the ditches. Better to come in as an intern or get recruited straight from college if you are looking for a management role. Outsiders that get hired in get hired in at the bottom and spend years attempting to work their way up only to find a thick glass ceiling between the lowly specialists and management.
