Directors in specialized units are just pushed into other comparable roles when they are unsuccessful, They are usually middle aged white males and are disparaging to females, especially those who disagree with them. They have favorites and make it known if they don't like you. They will even let that dislike trickle down to your own direct reports. If you have an opinion and are female in management, do not speak up. They will try to drive you out.
