Pros

If you're able to get on a long-term travelling project, you live expense free. If you wish to explore another city, you can try to transfer or request projects in those cities.

Cons

Where to begin... I will admit, I was all-in on Protiviti my first year of employment. They make a lot of promises, spoil you during a two week training session, make you believe you will be doing consulting work. All lies. 90 percent of the work is internal audit. If you want to do some real consulting, this is not the place. Although internal audit allows you to peek into a variety of companies, at the end of the day, it does not prepare you well for industry (real) work. 401K match? Almost none. 2% if you put in 6, and it doesn't vest for like 3 years? I'll keep my 6%, thanks. Health Insurance? I paid around $120/month out of pocket. Vacation? Decent amount of vacation, but they expect you to do an equal amount of extracurricular activities for the company. Bonus? Ha. What a joke, my first employer gave me a $100 bonus for working 2 months just as a thank you since I was not eligible. Protiviti does not offer bonus your first year, and they mean it.

Pros

-The only truly good reason to work here is the people. Most of the people here are really nice and helpful. -Do not work much overtime.

Cons

-Work is extremely boring and repetitive. -Work is easy and non-challenging. -You do not learn anything from this job. -No skills will be learned that will be useful in another job, unless wanting to be in internal audit. -Incentive programs are not very good, bonuses are low. -Most work relating to SOX Testing. -You may have little influence as to what/ where your assignments may be. -Most people select their jobs based on the people, but this is an exception. No matter how great the people here are the work will make you miserable because it is so slow and boring.

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you are enjoying the people you are working with and that you find Protiviti’s work/life blend to be positive. In regards to your project work, I would encourage you to reach out to your advisor network and resource management team. If there is a particular type of work that you are interested in or specific skills you would like to grow, those two resources can help you explore those opportunities. We also offer several local trainings on our solution offerings. I would suggest reaching out to your respective solution leadership with your concerns. Our promises to our people are a key component of our strategy. These promises include providing Exceptional Development Opportunities, so we’d like to make sure that promise is being met. Again, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.

Good Place to Start a Career but then LEAVE!

Pros

Protiviti is consistently ranked as one of the best places to start a career and I could not agree with that more. During your first few years you are provided an opportunity to see a lot of companies quickly and engage at a higher level than if you were with the Big 4 or corporate. However, most of my projects at the start of my career was more consulting focused than internal audit so this may not consistently be the case.

Cons

Once the first year honeymoon period is over here is what you have to look forward to: - No input into your schedule or career future. Even if you've expressed dissatisfaction with particular types of project you will still be staffed if there is a need causing employees to be pigeonholed and ultimately unhappy. - Seems as if management is chasing only sales credit. Even awful projects with low revenue will be sold which benefit neither the client or company. Since at a certain level management is measured on how much they can sell there is really no other concern but $$. - Zero regard for the "best employees" cornerstone. If a client wants something you must drop everything to meet their needs. Often managers do not have a backbone to push back on clients when expectations are unrealistic or may impact employees. - Protiviti is essentially an internal audit firm attempting to be a consulting firm. While the leadership team continuously talks about growing Risk and Compliance and IT Consulting most projects seem to be IA focused and the executive team is made up of tons of former auditors. - Consultants are told not to "eat hours" (work them and not charge them in) however when the budget is tight this happens all of the time. Consultant bonuses are based off of how many hours are worked and not charging them can reduce end of year bonuses. - A 401k matching program exists however the matching portion of the program is not paid until December 31st meaning no interest or no match if an employee leaves before December.
