Pros

-This is great if you like to audit. You'll get plenty of opportunities to do so. -Work life balance is easily maintained here. -There are 1-2 excellent colleagues out of your class of 30-40 -The pay is more competitive than Big 4, but it's quite low compared to most other places AND you do not get the Big 4 brand name on your resume. I'm not recommending Big 4's assurance or advisory divisions--I don't think they're worth it at all if you're putting in their hours (you might as well pursue IB or true Management Consulting).

Cons

-They tell you they do consulting--they really don't. -No one ever gets fired unless they're mentally ill; thus, you have some really unthinkably dumb superiors. UNTHINKABLY. This results in the mediocrity increasing over time as the excellent people all leave to pursue better opportunities and other future excellent people not wanting to come in due to the fact that Protiviti is getting dumber and dumber. -

Pros

Exposure to interesting clients and industry, international and domestic travel, working with fun teams, working with some smart and top tier individuals that come in and out of the firm. There are fun events and drinking socials. They do a good job of trying to get people into rotations in different service lines. The technology is improving.

Cons

Weak middle and upper management - Sad to say I've been embarrassed to follow management's directions more than once here. Promotions have little meaning, and pressure to write good reviews on Glassdoor and other surveys to fluff up their reputation is rampant, a lot of inefficiency and knowledge gaps with managers. You won't get big 4 caliber experience here.

Pros

It's a good place to start your career. Out of college, it's a fantastic way to learn how to work, how to manage projects/competing priorities, attention to detail, serving clients, and how to keep grinding. If you earn your manager's trust there is flexibility in your schedule. I was able to see past the smoke and mirrors early on and felt really jaded long before I left. However, after some time to reflect and starting a new position, I was able to see how valuable the project management and soft skills I learned really were. 6 months ago I would have given it 1 to 2 stars, but because of the skills i took away I felt compelled to go with 3.

Cons

You are an auditor, not a consultant. They try and make it sound better than it actually is when they pitch you on the job. However, when you realize you're not a consultant, you can end up feeling like you were duped. Office politics are rampant and the actual material is extremely dry. Since it's all about the clients and there is a huge amount of pressure from management, the stress levels skyrocket and it all rolls downhill to the consultants. At the end of the day, the stress being thrown at you over a SOX AUDIT is not worth it. Especially since the compensation is not adequate for the amount of work (You do the same thing as the Big 4 but for 10%-15% less). Turnover is huge - I witnessed 9 people leave my small office in just a few months.
