Pros

The large system provided access to a lot of tools and resources that made it easier to get things done. Compassion is evident throughout system.

Cons

No local control, decisions are made by disconnected regional or system executives. Limited staff training opportunities; low pay; marginal benefits. A lot of talk but very little action and follow through. Weak local management due to system overreach.

Pros

For decades, Providence has been an excellent place to work and make a career. That is not true at the moment, however, and it is unclear whether it will become the case again anytime soon. The core values of Providence are amazing.

Cons

Financial stress, massive and constant reorganizations, poorly executed mission critical projects. As I mentioned, core values are an important and authentic part of Providence's identity and culture... except in periods of stress, when they're quickly forgotten.

Pros

No lack of work here

Cons

IS Project managers should be allowed to be advocates for their business customers but because they report up through IS they are expected to cover up issues and wait for them to work themselves out. It's seen to be more palatable that a project manager be run over by the bus then an application analyst or system engineer as an example. It's been demonstrated that management tolerates disrepectful behavior towards project managers (i.e. cursing, hanging up on). Project managers are the scape goats at this company. Also, the good ol' boys club exists here and the female leadership demonstrate the Queen Bee syndrome. I was once told by a female leader that to be respected and valued I needed to say as little as possible to convey my message because that is how men communicate.
