Pros

Pay is in the upper range for this area Presentation to new employees is great--friendly, warm, welcoming Nursing staff and direct care staff are great to work with

Cons

-New employees do not receive adequate orientation and are included in staffing count before receiving unit training creating dangerous situations for patients and staff -HR Director finds a way to get rid of employees who ask too many questions -Patient safety issues are ignored: contraband items (such as glass containers and belts) are commonly found in rooms of patients who have been designated as suicidal/self injurious/assaultive--when employees complain about this they are labeled 'troublemakers' -Promotions and advancement opportunities have no established criteria other than being friends with the right people -No credit/recognition for advancing your education -Older employees (>40 y.o.) are looked over in favor of younger employees with less experience and less education -Employees who question unsafe practices are ostrasized.

Pros

The best thing about working there is the patients. A few of the staff are great but the patients are really the best part about it, especially if you work on the rehab part or with the dementia patients.

Cons

Upper staff - management and many of the charge nurses - were really bad about not telling lower staff (laundry, kitchen, CNAs) anything about patients who needed extra care, were dangerous, or had certain contagious illnesses. Depending on the shift, it can be difficult to get the help or supplies needed. Communication is severely lacking.
