Pros

Public Storage offers a very generous benefits package which includes Medical/Vision/Dental/Legal & 401k contributions with matching deposits & Profit sharing opportunities. Public Storage provides paid training, as well as detailed and specifically tailored ongoing training to learn the day-to-day operations of running a retail business and management truly cares about ensuring your success: from Customer Service, Sales, Accounting, Exceeding Goal expectations & customer issue resolution. You also have a vast amount of autonomy in running a location. And as the largest, Fortune 500 personal storage company with over 2,600 locations nationwide, opportunities exist for advancement and relocation throughout the United States. Public Storage also believes employees need to have a well-balanced mix of work and family life. As far as retail goes, Public Storage's business hours are VERY family friendly! Typical business hours weekdays are only from 9:30am -6pm, and slightly less on weekends Overtime is NEVER mandatory, but available if desired.

Cons

You MUST enjoy working with the public, and be outgoing with the ability to LISTEN to all customers, and be empathetic to their individual situations. Also, most properties are single covered, so need to be reliable in showing up to scheduled shifts on time.

Pros

Public Storage hires from retail so the work life balance is definitely better.

Cons

You’re essentially a glorified General Manager who oversees multiple properties. Compensation is low at both the DM and property manager level. The company pays their property teams minimum wage and expects way too much for the pay. If you get promoted out of the DM position, don’t expect extra compensation for your new role. Turnover is very high and it’s because the competition is paying much more. You’ll spend a bulk of your month cutting locks and selling auction units. The company does not provide you with protective clothing for the lock cuts either...if you want something more than gloves and goggles you have to pay for it out of pocket; which I’m sure goes against OSHA standards. Benefits are very expensive for not the best coverage. Also, as a district manager you are responsible for working with vendors to get repairs done in your buildings. This takes up a ton of your time and doesn’t allow you to coach and develop your team.

Pros

Following guidelines to lease storage units and sell merchandise. Mostly have to be self-driven and building strong relationships with our customers to give them five star experience. However, if you take pride of taking care your storage facility as manager is very enjoyable and satisfying.

Cons

Public storage is leading industry in this category and the pay could be better compared the competitor.
