Pros

Stores are physically not open past 6pm. That helps with less issues with customers past office hours. If you get a great Regional, then you will get more out of this position. Peers 8 out of 10 are good people. Pay is competitive for a big box store salary.

Cons

this company has analysis paralysis. There are literally 17 reports to run daily. To send to someone. You need to do things so you don't show up on someone's report somewhere. They will work on your pay plan the year of the pay plan. they work on objectives the year those objectives are for. There is no planning from regional manager and above. They overload you on pencil pushing thing to do instead of value time spent with your people to develop them. Each of the systems are built to take 5 extra steps to do one thing. You cannot approve repairs past 100 dollars. They also coddle veterans that are chronic underperformers. Corporate employees and some regional and above are there to catch what you're doing wrong yet not offer solutions to fix it. There is no real "time off" on the weekends . They have so many unwritten rules on how to answer an email or a question or a phone call. Have more transparency with your people!

An Awful Place to Work!

Pros

At Public Storage, they have some good stock incentives for Regional Managers and above, but even they are being reduced significantly.

Cons

The top down culture here makes this an awful place to work. The company manages by fear and expects to terminate a big percentage of it's employees every year. One DVP actually stated, "All your employees are stealing from you, it's your job to find out how and then fire them." One of the CEO's favorite sayings is "Only the paranoid survive!" Even the paranoid can't stand this place. Nearly all employees are consistently looking for another job to find a way out. He also has a short-term view of the business and does not believe in customer service, he only wants decisions made that affect the quarterly results he has to present to Wall Street. Read the customer reviews on Google and you will see what I mean. Even the positive reviews were received through a forced solicitation. In the CEO's own words, "We puke cash", yet even though they had record breaking YOY improvement, salaries and hourly wages are the lowest in the industry and increases are often put off for several months. My best advice to you is to stay as far away as you can get, both as a customer and an employee.

Pros

Guaranteed 38 to 39 hours. If your a property manager you are at a set location which is good to get to know your area and customers demographics wise. Also, its a pretty laid back job once you do what you have to get done and is repetitive so every month on select days you pretty much know your work load.

Cons

The PAY! For such a big company with over 2,300+ locations the employees who do all the hard work renting spaces and keeping the facilities cleaned deserve better than $9. The competitors pay more but we are leading in real estate something is definately wrong with that. Also bonuses and incentives....they can do better. It doesnt make me feel as an employee that the company cares how we live day to day with so little.
