Pros

Pay is high for a retail position, and you're given stock.

Cons

We were expected to be unrealistically friendly (ironically, why many people avoid Publix). We were required to change our passwords for our online schedules once every 3 months, and the password rules were strict (PayPal is nowhere near as strict.) The time system prohibited overtime, and part-timers had to leave when they were scheduled even if the closer still had work to do. Openers would arrive and have to finish closing. When I tried coming back to another store, they wouldn't hire me because the higher ups wanted the position to go to someone who had never worked at Publix. Plus, Publix claims to encourage cross-training and promotions, but good luck getting into another department once you start.

Pros

They have good pay and schedule flexability

Cons

This company is so micro managed you have zero room to do anything without approval. The managers are so harsh on managers beneeth them it makes you not want to advance they demand alot of your life as you progress from full-time to management. This company has a high turnover rate as of late and I see why. I hate my life here. They will pile way more work on one person then should be. And the customers act like your less than human with the way they treat you

Pros

Job security, opportunity for advancement, employee-owned, profit sharing, quarterly bonuses for managers, tuition reimbursement, great place to work for those who aren't interested in moving up

Cons

Work/life balance, high stress level, long hours, work weekends, corporate politics can make dealing with conflict more difficult than it should be, high turnover--generally understaffed which makes it hard to properly invest time in new hires, managers are frequently placed at locations 20 miles or further away from home with no change in pay to compensate, below-average number of vacation days based on length of full-time service, health insurance options could be better, generally not successful at promoting and retaining the right people
