Where working is not a pleasure

Pros

One of the only good reasons to work for this company would be if you were working part time and going to school. They are very fair when it comes to allowing you to change your availability and when you ask for time off.

Cons

There are plenty of cons about working for Publix. First of all, if you aren't a Customer Service Staff than the favoritism game is strong. If you are not a favorite, regardless of how hard you work you will not get the hours that you want and you will see that you are working 10 times harder than everyone around you and still constantly being reprimanded. They really hate it when you call-in when you are sick. They try to avoid sending people home who are sick. Some of the managers do not know how to do any work. If you do get hours then your hours could be really long maybe 10 hours and only receiving a 30 minute break. It will take you forever to move up in a position and the pay is horrible.

Pros

Fast-paced to Publix is slow-paced to the rest of the world. There are some brilliant, good-hearted associates and leaders there.

Cons

Competitive environment that rewards playing dirty. Sterotypical southern hospitality: polite but two-faced and fake. Due to their preference to promote from within, there is an extordinary amount of incompetence. However, if you pledge allegience to Publix, "bleed green", and brown-nose them, you will succeed whether you are competent or not. LITERALLY!!! Every year the new interns and associates describe the culture as a CULT. A CULT! It is KNOWN that Director level and beyond get away with ANYTHING - whether that is breaking FMLA laws, harassment, retaliation against reports of harassment, nepotism, or sabotaging other departments. When you report it to HR, leadership will find another way to circumvent their efforts to harrass you even more. Escalate that to senior leadership, and they help cover it up. Escalate it again to the CFO and NOTHING!

Pros

It’s fun to help so many people

Cons

Too many to start, every manager lies to you to get you to do what they want, manipulative, will do whatever it takes to convince you you don’t deserve a raise. Been there 3 years, I make as much as someone that gets hired today. I have full time responsibility and put in leadership roles. I have nothing to show for my years of experience.
