-Flexible work schedule -Great for resume no matter what your major is -Able to meet new friends via fellow callers -Calling alumni can be very rewarding or even beneficial towards your own future (I know a student who got a co-op and future job opportunity from an alumni he had talked to) -One of the best paying jobs on campus for students

Cons

Recently, there have been a lot of management changes and a lot of aspects of the job are changing. However, if you are a new hire, you probably won't notice any of that since you will only be trained on what is new.

Pros

I've been very fairly treated for nearly 40 years. Very patient with me as I've varied my time commitment due to entrepreneurial activities. The students are terrific to work with and we have a very collegial chemistry department of dedicated scholars and teachers. The flexibility of academia is fabulous, lots of independence, great to work with smart young people on important problems. Leadership of current president Mitch Daniels is refreshing and open to experimentation.

Cons

Large bureaucracies always have some challenges when on occasion the wrong person gets put in the wrong spot. That happens, but down in the trenches at the department level one works around it. Higher ed is challenged today on most fronts; funding research, affording tuition, convincing government on value and affordability. We will get through this.
