      Pros

      The Purdue Chemistry Department has a very casual atmosphere. The cost of living in the Lafayette area is very low. I even bought a house on a graduate salary. The Department is one of the largest in the country, and has great facilities and support.

      Cons

      There isn't a whole lot to do in Lafayette. The terrain is flat, which is terrible if you are an outdoors type. In the winter, the temperature jumps above and below freezing a lot, which means ice. Summers are hot and humid.

      Great place to work as teaching assistant. I worked there for 3 years and had a good experience for the most part.

      Pros

      Friendly staff, good supervisor, mostly smart proactive students. Pay was also decent compared to other part time teaching gigs.

      Cons

      Not many. I would say sometime the students are quite slack in their attitude and would frequently skip class. But that is not on the university.

      Pros

      The university provides a quality education to its students. Purdue is one of the largest employment sources for the area.

      Cons

      I believe the average length of employment is around 15 years for the majority of the staff and administration. They are stuck in old ways and fight every chance to move processes into the 21st century. Older employees who lack technological skills resent newer employees who bring new approaches. You find more retirees who have returned and temps working there than fresher employees. There is a high turnaround for employees working there two years or less.
