Pros

Your job responsibilities will extend far beyond the job description, so you learn a lot (regardless of whether it's within your career interest, expertise, or even abilities). If you want to get a lot of experience in a short amount of time at any cost, this is the place for you. Some really wonderful people work here. None of them are in positions of true authority.

Cons

Shot: The "co"-leader of Pyxl (currently VP of Marketing) is engaged to the owner/CEO of the company. Chaser: the "co"-leader is profoundly incompetent. But there's nowhere to go with that issue because of her relationship with the CEO. Clients, prospects and prospective employees were routinely lied to by leadership about the size of the company, the capabilities of the team, the capacity of the team, and even the details of some contracts. Employees gaslit at every turn--conversations about bonuses or pay "never happened". Massive disparities in pay within and across teams. Micro-management is rampant and unchecked--expect to get a request, then get asked about it 3-5 more times in the next few days even if you've clearly communicated progress/expectations already. Unless of course you are one of the lucky few that get chosen to be the "co"-leader's favorite--this is an ever-changing roster and asking too many questions will get you cut from the list. "Co"-leader routinely got confused on pitch calls and client calls about elementary advertising and marketing concepts like programmatic, automation, SERP, etc. When I last worked there she did not know the difference between Google Sheets and Excel. This leader was brought up in nearly every exit interview in my time at Pyxl as a reason for departure. The other leader is nice, but follows the tone set by "co"-leader. Beyond these two leaders, it's a *tiny* company and there's very little upward mobility.

Pros

Talented employees at the contribution level, and the web design team seems to produce fantastic work

Cons

Management is very one-sided (especially within the marketing organization) in cheering employees on when things are going good, but the minute anything went wrong they were the first to point fingers. How can you expect employees to take ownership when you haven’t set the example yourself? Also, pay rates are extremely low compared to the industry in Nashville. If you’re considering a position here, please weigh all options before you decide to move forward.

Complete lack of leadership

Pros

They have sweet nerf guns that make it look like everyone is having fun when everyone is dying inside.

Cons

I didn’t take the advice of numerous people who worked at Pyxl previously and accepted what became the worst job and career move of my life. Brian Winter is a man of extremely low integrity and treats his employees like cattle. He recently hired a new CEO and COO who he just let go 6 months after hiring them, along with 6 or 7 other people. I only worked there for 5 months but in that time period multiple people left every month and there’s only 30 people in the company. I’ve never seen turnover like this before. The pay and benefits are terrible. I took a huge pay cut to work obscene hours and get yelled at by clients because leadership made grand promises that were impossible to fulfill. At one point my boss was a client of Pyxl - try to wrap your head around that. I had three bosses in 5 months because everyone quit or was asked to leave. And the last two months I had no one to report to. It’s honestly the worst place I’ve ever worked. There is zero leadership. They just fired everyone who makes too much money, ie, anyone with actual experience — which was still far below market standards — so they can keep paying interns minimum wage and college grads $35k. The nonexistent HR rep will respond to this and say things like “turnover is normal at agencies, and our pay is based on market standards, and I’m sorry you had a bad experience, etc. Do not listen. If you are considering taking a job at pyxl find and talk to people who use to work there first — there’s a lot of us. Go to Design Sensory or Clayton Homes, or Discovery instead. Honestly go anywhere else.
