Pros

Good benefits, Comparable salary to industry standard

Cons

The company's mother ship is in San Diego, they have been buying a lot of startups, the problem is that they don't know how to handle them and pour hard earned cash into some of these non profit divisions which are basically allowed to treat a lot of hard working individuals anyway they want. Too many PHD's with no managerial experience that think they are god doing technician level work. Some are placed in management positions and they are really terrible at it, some cannot even understand English. HR is only a legal front for the managers, holding the sword.

Pros

Challenging work, very professional staff, great benefits, industry leader, room to grow.

Cons

If working in the largest division, QCT - (Qualcomm CDMA Technologies) - it's a SWEATSHOP, SWEATSHOP, SWEATSHOP... expect 60+ hour weeks routine unless you are very good at pushing back. That is why they are industry leader - they extract more output per employee than similar companies at the expense of the employee.

Pros

Still the leader in wireless. Lightyears ahead of other mobile chip makers.

Cons

Qualcomm has had lots of burn out in the past couple years. During my exit interview, the HR person mentioned they are seeing a gradual increase in employees leaving due to burn out. I'm still in contact with my old co-workers there and it's the same story: long hours, constant pressure to meet aggressive schedules. If you are hell bent on working at Qualcomm, avoid the QCT division. They work their engineers like dogs there. I was part of the modem group when I left and they had the most aggressive working hours. While I still worked there, a QCT engineer committed suicide in 2010 which made big news, but there was another recent QCT suicide in June of 2012 that was hush hush possibly due to timing of a big PR announcement. This is what my sources who still work here tell me. Very sad.
