Good place to work, but far from perfect

Pros

Good people: Qualtrics does a good job of maintaining a high bar for talent, so you're bound to meet and interact with a lot of really smart, cool people. It's a great place to learn and pick the brains of bright people. Good benefits & perks: Free snacks are really nice to have. It's also a fun environment with shuffleboard, ping pong, etc. available to play. Also their zero premium health insurance and HSA plans are fantastic. Good product: Qualtrics is a great product and truly a leader in the industry. It's easy to get behind and believe in the technology.

Cons

Low pay: Unless you're an upper level leader or top sales person, Qualtrics pays about 10-20% below the market rate. This can be frustrating as an employee. Promotions outside of sales are very difficult and slow, despite what may be communicated. If you are starting in an entry level position, don't count on ever getting a real big pay day (again, unless you're a sales all-star). From what I understand they do this is in order to be more profitable to get a higher valuation when they IPO. Also they don't want employees who work there "for the money", but rather people who believe in the vision and want to be there for other reasons. Hype to substance ratio: There's a LOT of hype from leadership around Qualtrics' future, how they're profitable, how they're a rocket ship, how they going to IPO, how they have amazing investors and a great board, etc. but much of the hype seems to be just hype and regular employees don't necessarily see the benefits of the company's "deep pockets" or unicorn-ness. Politics: Most employees at Qualtrics are ambitious and young in their career and are striving to climb the ladder and move to the top. Unfortunately this leads to quite a bit of politics and ulterior motives. Lots of people trying to do whatever it takes to get recognized by the right people and lots of the time it's about who you can get tight with within the company and not always a meritocracy. Overall employees aren't treated as well as they should be and certainly aren't treated as the company's most valuable asset (unless you're a top salesperson).

Pros

+ Nice office, but not a great location for commuters + Open floors; flat (no offices) + Health benefits are great + Good coworkers; nice pool of talent and usually fun to be around

Cons

- Low salary - Culture; company feels like it's out to get its employees; little to no loyalty; employees never feel like a top concern - Qualtrics hires all of its managers from outside; almost no upward trajectory - Middle managers are terrible; no passion, no leadership, all management. Culture of micro management is creeping in on the back of 'performance' measurement - Best way to get noticed is to sit at your desk from 7am-7pm - Constant state of transition/repair in products

A Hidden Gem!

Pros

* Transparency: open environment. Everyone can look into what the CEO and leadership did last week and is doing this week (or quarter). Your position doesn't limit what you can or can't do. The competent is rewarded more than the confident. * Scalability: this is not your typical startup. We have a huge load on our system. We are getting really challenged to scale our system to the number of our customers and their customers. * Ecosystem: Like it or not, we are going to become the ecosystem for getting insights about customers, employees, and the market. As of today, everyone in education knows about it. In a few years, everyone in business will be in the same position. * Everyone is talented and HUMBLE. Yes, humble. Good luck finding that elsewhere. I'm going beyond humble now because I want to showcase this hidden gem. * We took the best habits of Google, Amazon and Microsoft. All the other bad habits like working on random stuff just for advertising, abusing our workforce, or nourishing slackers, we left them behind :) Disclaimer: these are my own thoughts; not Qualtrics'. I'm giving you my anonymous opinion as a Qualtrics employee here in Seattle.

Cons

* Health insurance is not that great (compare to Microsoft). Still, I don't have to pay for it like I did in past startups!! * If you're here to slack and relax, this is not the right place for you. * If you just care about what you're doing and don't think of the customer, it won't work either. Come super prepared, the interview bar is high, as an engineer and as a human being.
