Pros

I can work flat out 10 hour plus days and come home anything up to £600 in a day, or I can take time off with only a few weeks planning. I go on holiday 5-6 times a year and still have money to save and plan for the future. I know that sounds too good to be true, but it's my actual experience. Nigel Kennedy, the South Wales manager will support anyone who's willing to commit the time and effort. A huge plus over any other sales position I have worked in is the strength of the marketing. Half your job is done before you open your mouth. If you have ever done cold calling for lesser known companies, you'all understand how great that is.

Cons

Like any sales position, you have have to take responsibility for what you can control and work around what you can't. The weather can on occasion be a problem, so make hay while the sun shines.

Pros

It's a job, Company van, start and finish at home. No commute. Tools provided.

Cons

This job used to be great, encouraged to fix everything possible at the roadside.... now its sell, sell, sell. As a time served technician my job has been reduced to that of a sales assistant. Arrive, diagnose and book someone else to come and fix it another day and don't forget to sell a service as well. I speak for 100's of patrols who feel Rac have lost sight of the core business and are focused on the SMR devison. The patrols are now mere sales agents for this service. Currently having sales targets forced down our throats even though there are zero targets in contract. Failure to secure bookings for services results in "improvement plans" and managers shadowing you all day. Patrol moral is very low. Forced into selling overpriced services and repairs rather than fixing it there and then. Pay is poor for the current market and dangerous nature of the job and unsociable hours. The lower graded SMR "technicians" are on a higher salary and better work hours than patrols now.

Thanks for sharing this review; it’s clear the patrol who wrote it cares deeply about the job and the direction of the business, and we really appreciate that. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how things are feeling for you right now. We know the role has evolved, and we understand that changes can be tough. We’re actively reviewing how we support patrols and how we balance commercial goals with the core roadside service that’s always been at the heart of RAC. Your voice — and the voices of your colleagues — matter, and we’ll make sure this feedback is heard. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.
