Pros

- Work spans a wide variety of "hot topics" and supports a diverse client base - The staff is very bright with really interesting backgrounds which enhances the overall quality of work - There are many opportunities for cross-discipline work among the different centers and locations - Academic mindset

Cons

- Academic mindset - for some people this is a selling point, to others not so much - Do not expect much support - if you need assistance with something you will have to hunt to find people who can help you - If you like to interact with your colleagues during the workday, this is not the right place for you. Working in the DC office is like working in a graduate library - other locations may be a bit more lively. - If you are coming to RAND from another job (in industry or government), it may be take some time to adjust to the slower pace of work

Pros

Genuinely good people who are generally easy to work with, with a few exceptions. Fair compensation. Great mission. Employees care about mission.

Cons

Employees stay a long time and therefore there is not much room for upward mobility. Technology extremely outdated, questionable technological decisions when something is updated. Some long term employees are mostly checked out. Heavily impacted by national politics and the federal govt.

Pros

You're working with the brightest people on the planet! Having a security clearance is awesome. The briefings and meetings were fascinating. There is room for growth and you will only be working with the best of the best. They foster a great atmosphere.

Cons

The pay is horrible, you will go broke. Everything has a process and it takes a year to learn the complex systems there. The middle management I worked for were really harsh and frankly mean. It all depends on who you work for. Just know that you can't make a mistake...ever!
