Horrible equipment, horrible supervisors with nasty attitudes, no chance of OT unless it’s a mandate and they feel like keeping you 2+ hrs. Horrible all around if you ask me. Multiple DOH violations throughout the buses and bases, crews flying with no AEDs or MED bags, supervisors sweeping things under the rug, changing PCR narratives to commit insurance fraud. They clear new people in days with no knowledge of anything so senior crew members get stuck working with unsafe crew members. Company has had multiple crews dropping patients lately. the list is long and it goes on.

Supervisors are nice and work with you on certain things.

Cons

They need more drivers badly. They force you to work 2 hours extra on top on the 8 your assigned . Depending on the calls you can be out there for 12 hours . Can affect your personal life if you got kids.

Pros

Scheduling manager honors your time off (from religious holidays to school commitments) Most supervisors actually care about continuing education and good clinical outcomes, unlike certain other private agencies who won't be named. RCA has a decent clinical reputation as an IFT company although a little below that of SeniorCare. You get trained to drive the ambulance if you're above the age of 25 Lots of opportunities to network into other facilities. You can gain serious experience with codes and real emergencies here, especially as an EMT driving for ALS overnights, sprinkled in between medical appointments and discharges. Certain shifts have a high likelihood of responding to Hatzalah emergencies at residences, if that's your thing. Responding to serious ALS Hatzalah emergencies is not uncommon. The breadth and depth of clinical experience here will give you a good shot at getting into 911 (outside), PA school or medical school.

Cons

If you (as an EMT) get cleared to drive you will rarely ever be paired with another driving tech. (It's official policy that is hard for even scheduling to challenge.) Back to back shifts with no chance to swap roles with your partner can be exhausting. Drivers get worked to death while teching partners get to nap. My biggest peeve about working here. Entry-level pay; difficult to obtain pay raises. No opportunity to move on to in-house 911. People frequently move on to hospital-based employment, nursing, PA school / medical school etc. Difficult to obtain sick leave pay when you have to call out for legit medical reasons. Most of the older ambulances are dirty, in serious need of cleaning and have something wrong with them. No CPAP on BLS buses for alert patients with severe respiratory distress / impaired gas exchange who are able to manage their own airway -- forced to use either nonrebreather (often inadequate) or BVM (often too aggressive).
