Pros

Fantastic benefits and discounts. Positive up beat staff. Well managed.

Cons

I found that my training was very inefficient. I was often reprimanded for making mistakes, however, most of the mistakes were due to the fact that it was not covered in training. Even as a cashier, you have many responsibilities. I feel as though it took me two months to feel confident, and even after that I was still discovering things not covered in training. Also on a more personal note, REI employees are very clique-ish. If you don't fit the typical "hippie, go green" type, then it can be VERY difficult to fit in. I'm not happy working there, but I stay because it has great benefits for a retail position.

Pros

Management are enthusiastic, positive and friendly, for real.

Cons

evaluations are totally dependent on membership sale. you can be great at everything else, but that counts as zero compared to the sale of memberships.

HR department obviously doesn't hire anyone from the outside. You have to work their or no someone that does to get in the door.
