Pros

REI people are generally great people who want to collaborate and succeed. There are many hardworking and talented individuals who are keeping the company running.

Cons

Leadership often makes short-sighted decisions that stall growth. REI generally recruits people to join based on a lifestyle and relaxed way of working. As such, they generally pay below market rate and rely on burned-out individuals to be willing to accept lower pay.

Pros

It was good while it lasted. Store discount, and ability to order at a discount through most brands that REI carries. You pay for Health care, pay more for additional like dental. Good prices for life insurance etc.

Cons

Toxic work environment, union supporter witch hunts, harassment, insecure/inept leadership. The store manager is a "Numbers Guy" and the only number he is concerned with is Membership. With the most recent purge of REI employees it is becoming more and more apparent that more heirs that have little to no knowledge about the outdoors and the gear REI sells are being onboarded. Limited Growth potential.

Pros

Pro-Deal discounts are a huge plus, as well as the commuter benefit. I'll hand that to them. Most of the folks who work at REI are wonderful people who will quickly become like family.

Cons

They refuse to give reasonable hours. As a full time employee I'm still only scheduled 2 days a week average since August. I briefly got 4-5 days a week but that seems like it was more of a fluke than anything. Management seems like its out to get anyone who rocks the boat, and many of them have little to no knowledge of what their department actually looks like right now. The purported values of the company are also ENTIRELY fake. There is nothing done on the store level that exemplifies any of the supposed values that REI espouses.
