Pros

Amazing coworkers and great discounts

Cons

Lack of respected and appreciation for the sheer amount of work employees put in. Likes to brand itself as a left-leaning, fun-loving, chill workplace but hasn't been that way towards its employees for years. At one point cut everyone's hours back to the point that some weren't even getting scheduled for two weeks at time with no explanation. Only after significant pushback from employees about the lack of communication and hours did management fess up to a huge budget issue that was ongoing. When my store unionized the backlash and union-busting we experienced was abhorrent and did not follow the company image that REI sells to its customers. Apparently REI used some of the same lawyers and tactics to union bust as Amazon.

Pros

This is cliché, but my immediate co-workers were great people. Also, one thing I do appreciate is them taking Black Friday off. That's one thing I haven't seen other retail companies do.

Cons

Nonetheless, no matter how this company tries to spin itself, at its core, it's still a company whose number-one priority is profit. Problem is, this company has been losing money, so there's some "floundering" going on. When you start, the initial onboarding is pretty okay (it has ALOT of "kool-aid"), but once you get your schedule & hit the floor, you realize this company is nothing special; you'll be expected to push membership & credit cards (alot) to customers, even though you get no commission for it... Also, management isn't as inspiring as they think they are. And if you're looking for consistent hours....lol. All I'm gonna say is, if you're part-time, make sure you have another job to fall on, because the hours are wildly inconsistent here; you may work just 8 hours on certain weeks. The job itself isn't "bad," but again, don't fall for the "kool-aid." You should see this place as just another company where you get your paycheck and leave, because you're not doing anything special. And again, if you're part-time here, please make sure you a have another job and are in college, because there is no future here anymore.
