• Thought this was a company that aligned with my values. Turns out it's just another company. • Low morale, low pay, low job security. REI hasn't been profitable in a few years and the solution(?!) is to open more stores, and lay off a large percentage (30-50%) of IT and outsource those jobs. Leadership is uninspiring. No pay raises this year (neither merit nor cost of living). More layoffs are likely coming. • Lack of IT direction. Projects often only ever get 3/4 finished and then management finds something else new and shiny to chase, while engineers are stuck supporting both new and old technology. "We go further together" is all talk - some engineers do whatever they want, including the exact opposite of what other teams or management have decided.

My store managers have always been wonderful and communicate well. When membership conversation is low it can add some stressors to the work environment. This also makes it rewarding though when we meet our goals!
