Working for RGIS

Pros

It's a job, You have ability to determine when to work. Easy, not physical, inside and fairly clean. Using a handheld scanner to scan bar codes, you have PM times in the day and most of the night that is free.

Cons

$8-9 hr start pay, max pay is $12. Because most employers do not want RGIS inventory when the store is open, 75% of all jobs begin at either 5 or 6 am and last between 2-6 hrs on average. The only other times, about 25%, jobs start at 9 or 10 pm. If you need AM hours, working night will not yield much income, so everyone has another PT job. The most hours worked is not more than 20 hrs\week. You receive a schedule every two weeks listing your jobs, if you refuse to go because they want you to drive 70 miles to work 2 hrs, you could get fired. Some districts are very large-70 miles distant. Income for two weeks averages not more than $200. There is little flexibility should your plans change during the work period schedule, so you cannot plan well, if you do not show up for the job, termination may result even if you explain it. Basically, once you set your work times, you are expected to show to the job.Although the employee handbook implies a worker can accept or not a job, that is not how it works

Pros

money semi-flexible hours if you count fast, you get paid more

Cons

not paid for all your travel sometimes have to travel out of state If you are put in a slow count area, you don't get your numbers, therefore lose your good pay rate. In the case of emergency, you are stuck in a random city and have no means for transportation. you never know your schedule. It's always changing constantly and you never have a clue how long a store will take, you could be out by 9pm or by 5am and there's no way to know.
