A growing company in a competitive industry

Pros

I've worked for this company for over a decade. In that time, we've tripled the number of properties and quadrupled the workforce. Considering that property management, by definition, is a high-turnover industry, especially in the field, there are a large number of employees who have been with the company for five or more years. In my 30 years of property management experience, this is rare. And one of the reasons for our success is that the bar is set high on employee performance. There are chances for advancement, but you must work for it. Hard work and loyalty are rewarded, and for every disgruntled employee, there are far more who are happy.

Cons

Because there has been high growth in such a small time, the company suffers from the growing pains associated with moving from a small company to a large one. This includes high employee turnover, which makes sense if you are hiring a large number of employees, some for positions that never existed before. In my experience, I have never seen a good employee let go, though I've seen a lot of slackers and whiners get the boot. If you have the backbone, and some good ideas, then you will be successful here.

Do NOT work here

Pros

Honestly, I cannot think of too many pros to working for this company. They work you like a dog with no praise. They expect you to jump the second they ask.

Cons

MICRO management. Pointing fingers. Salary. They hire inexperienced people so they don't have to pay higher salaries, then fire these inexperienced people for not catching on quick enough. They demand every second of your time. They leave you with unstaffed properties because they love to fire people. Turn over rate with this company is at it's all time HIGH! Communities lose vendors left and right because they either take too long to approve a project or they don't pay them quick enough. They get disconnect notices for electric, internet and phone bills at their properties and will only pay them if they are threatened with a disconnect!

Miserable workplace

Pros

No pros. Miserable. The amount of time spent on work will NEVER MEASURE to the time missed out on family and friends while you try to make upper management happy. However, you NEVER WILL.

Cons

By far, my most miserable experience at a workplace. No matter what you do, it will never be enough. You're not compensated for your time, you're not rewarded for going above and beyond. They only pick at your flaws, and NEVER recognize any good. Goals are unreachable and amount of work unreasonable. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY. They will make it sound appealing and you will regret believing it.
