Pros

Good compensation relative to similar positions at other companies. Multiple bonus plans. Flexible hours. Everyone gets their own office. Work is very interesting.

Cons

Benefits are in sharp decline since Raytheon has started asserting dominance. Persistent fear of being laid off because of lack of work. No plan, strategy, or vision to grow business beyond government based contract R&D to offset losses resulting from DoD budget cuts and sequestration.

I'm glad I went there earlier, but time to leave

Pros

BBN has been a pretty good place for me overall. I learned lots of new hard and soft skills and had lots of fun on new projects. The pay wasn't horrible and there is plenty of parking.

Cons

The line managers are horrible - very cliquish. If you're in clique, you're golden, but when you fall out of favor, expect to get stabbed in the back. Benefits have begun to suck since the acquisition. My coworkers complain that the placement of corporate drones from Raytheon into key senior management positions have killed any kind of innovation in the company, but I contend that BBN senior management was quite good at screwing up way before Raytheon took over. Work life balance also sucks. We're required to maintain 40 hours per week for government contracting, but everyone with any career ambition works 60+.

Pros

- Flexibility - Pay is fair. - Benefits are good. - Growth is great if you bring in work (or know someone who does). Not so great if you don't. - Values scholarly work, but values money more.

Cons

- Will discreetly layoff employees - Good ole boy network - Very cliquish environment. Either you are in, or you are out. - Won't tell you that your job is in jeopardy. - Managers practice unfair or deceitful acts to eliminate employees who are lightly billable, or who are perceived unfavorably. - People who bring in work basically control the destiny (or fate) of those who don't.
