Not the best 'foot in the door'

Pros

Relaxed work environment, some interesting work

Cons

The company likes to say you have career flexibility and you should take charge of your own destiny, except that cannot be further from the truth. If you are a new grad that's looking to get your foot in the door and take ANY engineering job thinking you might be able to move around...don't come here. If you were like me and took the position so you could get an opportunity to do something you actually like, you will feel lied to. I have been trying to move to a field I like from one I am merely functional at. I do good work in my 'functional' field but would be much more productive in my preferred field, yet the company WILL NOT let me apply for postings within my skill level because they are ONLY for people without post college work experience.

Pros

Starting salary is competitive with other aerospace companies.

Cons

Employees who start their careers with Raytheon and look to stay for the long haul will quickly realize how underpaid they will be relative to counterparts who have moved between companies. In addition as is my case I have also noticed that new employees who are just coming out of school are making close to what I'm making with 5+years of experience. Which doesn't make sense being that I received great performance ratings my first 3 years at the company. Followed by average ratings the following 3 years. In short brand new employees are valued more that employees who've been around for a while with Raytheon or uncle Ray as us Raytheon employees call the company.
