Toxic management

Pros

Good pay, and great benefits, except the last few months they cut down the 401K company match from 4% to 1% and they never talk about about when they will bring it back to what it was. Co workers are good employees and you’ll get along well with.

Cons

Upper management doesn’t care about their labor and their relationships with the front line supervisors. Always looking for someone to blame, and they don’t want anyone one to disagree with their decision. No more PTO, and they switched to FTO, so they can deny your time off any time the manager doesn’t feel like it. New Ops director is making everyone uncomfortable in their job, and some supervisor literally were crying in front of the union employees because of a simple mistake in the rolling mill dept. They don’t promote within the company, unless you’re are really close to the director. Zero work life balance, if you’re are a supervisor, then prepare to be on call 24/7. If you don’t answer the phone, then be prepared to explain yourself to the Ops director in the morning meeting in front of everyone. Health and Safety is the most toxic dept in the mill, and you can ask anyone about it. They will fine anything to just blame and ask to fire the employee for any simple mistake. Finally, the micromanaging is up to the sky level. For example,: You can’t issue a warning without going through multiple steps of approval from direct manager, dept manager, ops director and then the HRBP.

Pros

Great benefits and decent pay

Cons

Layoffs happen around every two years, and it is a roll of the dice if you will be kept long enough to vest for your pension.
