Employees are genuinely nice. Executives are trying to make things better. Nice bright office. Company paid parking in downtown pdx is superb (although not sure how long it'll last).

Cons

Poor integrity from some of the middle management members. I've caught my direct manager lie about things and then try to cover them up. I lost respect for her immediately. Same manager would take sick days to stay home and not work or actually take pto, but never put in pto time on the timecards. I know at least a couple of managers in my department that get away from this. How wonderful is it to just take time off without using your pto hours? Really awesome but so wrong. Talents join the company because of the company, talents leave the company because of their manager. I can't speak to other departments, perhaps it's better, but in my department, I see these types of lies and cover ups all the time. I have seen enough. I personally cannot come to work everyday knowing lies will be thrown in my face and the people doing it just do it so naturally. It's disgusting.

None. A big company name on your resume.

Cons

Absolutely brutal culture, no bonus, no raise, no promotions. Please stay away from this company as they will try to screw you any ways they can, if you try to leave them. Company has 3 presidents of the Metal Recycling Unit (90% of the revenue) in Last 3 years. Last president quit without any reason according to Schnitzer Steel SEC filings. Shares are trading at a all time low.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, we have had three people in that Role in a very short period of time. The first person had been in that role for 7 years, the second had been with Schnitzer for 6 years prior and had received a number of promotions before being named President. Our current MRB President was promoted into the role upon the departure of his predecessor. We were pleased in 2014 to pay out bonuses to our employees and proud of the many employees who earned their well deserved promotions and raises.

Awful place! If I could rate it a zero, I would. People hate coming to work there. Terrible mgmt, from the top on down.

Decent medical insurance, I guess. You're gonna need medical if you work here. The stress will kill your body and your spirit.

Cons

Too many to mention. Worst job I've ever had. Can hardly wait to escape out of here. It can't come a minute too soon. Worst supervisor I have ever had. Overall bad place that cares nothing for their lower level employees, the ones who actually do the work and keep the place going. Too much politic'ing and back-biting and scrambling to be one of the good ol' boys. The pay sucks, with no raises unless you are in management, and then you get all kinds of nice little benefits and bonuses, and the CEO is actually being given bonuses based on how many people's jobs she can eliminate in this awful economy. People are desperately trying to hold onto their jobs and will do/say anything about others in order to 'secure' their lousy jobs. Horrible and blatant double standard in this company between the have's (management) and the have-not's (anyone else).
