Pros

The pay, but in the end not worth a terrible work environment. Management continues to speak of investment in employees while they continue to do layoffs and routine organizational changes resulting in zero stability and zero confidence from employees.

Cons

Almost everything. Human resource management completely contrary to what the title stands for as is CEO's 'dedication' to those that work here. Her management style directly reflected by senior and junior management staff resulting in depressed, unhappy and unmotivated morale.

Thank you for your honest review. Though painful to read, it's important for us to hear. With that said, have you discussed your concerns with your HRBP? We encourage you to do so. The only way we can affect change is by knowing what you are experiencing.

Pros

I have been told by hr that we have good life insurance.

Cons

As the Senior Human Resources Specialist said, “The challenges of the market have limited the bonus pool over the last few years.” They are right since I only got a lousy $.30 raise this year. What makes it worse is that our CEO made over $11 MILLION DOLLARS this year! My boss said we all received small raises b/c our company was doing badly. But our CEO got a $5.5 million bonus. I agree with other reviews about the good old boys club with the company. Also it’s suspicious that when the company began replying to posts that is the same time when there were 5 star reviews! Too bad Schnitzer Steel doesn’t spend that time helping employees rather than weird attempt to improve there rating!!

First, thank you for commenting. It is true we are dealing with market conditions that are less than favorable, and yes that does affect all aspects of the organization. Second, there is no coordinated effort to improve our ratings. It's an interesting theory, but is not the case. We are replying because we are aware of the challenges we face and how it reflects upon the organization. Change is not always easy and it takes time. We are working to make Schnitzer a better organization for our employees and our customers.

Pros

Company has great, dedicated employees at the mid-management level (site management to regional directors) and field based support functions. Great benefits package (insurance coverage, low premiums), generous annual PTO balance, 401k match.

Cons

Company has great, dedicated employees at the mid-management level (site management to regional directors) but their input is often overlooked and not requested. Perception is that corporate salaries (non-revenue generating) rise disproportionately to the salaries of the front-line employees who drive revenue as well as adding corporate personnel which increases the overhead costs. Recent layoffs have shaken employees faith in the company and belies the core values. Salaries not competitive.
