Pros

In it only to pay the bills.

Cons

High turn over even in Mexico, company puts to much effort in dead end projects. No respect for employees, Promotions are not fairly awarded therefore employee morale is very low. No leadership in part of management, at least not in my area. The most incompetent and out of touch with reality person that i have ever known. It only pays if you have connections.

Pros

Smart People with different back grounds make environment interesting, competitive pay and benefits, chance to dress up resume. Some stability in that it is a private company not pressured by Wall Street's expectations. A lot of turnover provides a chance for advancement but don't count on having a concrete shot at that empty position above you - they'll keep it empty if you aren't 105% qualified - there is no "grow" into a position. You do get exposure to formal processes that you may not have had to opportunity (good or bad) to see in a smaller company. Everyone knows Rain Bird name - so future employment may lead to better opportunities.

Cons

everything is a secret, getting the process right is more important than the results of the process, sometimes the work pace seems a bit hectic and unnecessary...alot of "hurry up and get a minor detail completed at the expense of creating true value...." Forget about being promoted into an empty position above you if you aren't able to take over that position's supervisor's job - there is no "..let's promote him and help him grow into the position.." Some positions are vacant for years - putting alot of pressure on those above and below the space in the org. chart... ..........oh yeah..they won't release an Org. Chart.......................

Pros

Work with quality product, and interacting with professional clients were the best parts of this enterprise.

Cons

The major issue is the disconnect between your performance - due to decentralization of managment (no one observes your performance directly), and their decision making. i also had no idea that they routine add and then eliminate sales people, without regard to performance. Also, senior management makes decisions about people based on an inner circle who have been there for many years, hearsay, and opinion - not fact. When I left, I had so many incredulous letters of testimonial from my customers that, it was obvious someone screwed up when they "eliminated" my position. You are lured by the opportunity, the potential, the promises, and then you are shocked by the calous disregard for the impact on their people that they demonstrate. This will happen to you, this is not a note from a poor performer. I am now a director.
