Pros

This is my first private sector job after leaving academia, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed at Slice. -I feel deeply respected as both an employee and a human being. No micromanagement, but everyone is prepared to help if you need it. It's a given that "personal stuff" (e.g. leaving early for doctor's appointments, staying home with a headache) will be accommodated. I feel trusted to do my job without anyone looking over my shoulder. -Professional development is encouraged and enabled. It's expected that employees will work on and build new technical skills and attend conferences (at least on my team). -Unless there's an extra big push to get some problem solved, employees are expected to work 8 hours a day. Not 12. Working in the Bay Area, this is not as common as it should be. Almost no work emails go out on the weekends. -Traditional benefits are good and other great perks are offered. Healthy meals, snacks, and drinks make me feel like the company actually values us. There are routinely socials and other events for me to look forward to during the week. The pros are many and the cons are few - Slice is an awesome place to work and I would really recommend it.

Cons

As a small and young company, on-boarding can be difficult. HR is great, but actually picking up the tools you need to do your new job can take time. Lots of info is not in documentation and is only in the heads of your coworkers, so getting questions answered can mean a lot of running around. Everyone is nice about it, but it does take time. I can see this being worked on as the company continues to grow.

Pros

Collaboration, transparency and hard work are the hallmarks of this place. 1. The company has a wide open door policy and everybody's so approachable. I joined as an intern but from the very first day, I always felt that my opinion matters and is weighed in when major decisions are taken regarding capstone products. 2. Everybody's so enthused about what they are working on. This place has a kind of atmosphere I honestly have never seen before. Everywhere you'll find people talking about the problems they are solving leading to great cross-team collaboration. 3. The company pays due attention to team-building as well. We have very frequent fun events to avoid burnout and recharge our batteries to keep functioning at an optimal level. 4. Company does stay true to its word of free and healthy food options, all day, every day <slurp slurp>

Cons

Why does this section even exist? Oh wait, there are other companies out there as well!

Pros

Starts with the founding members and management team. Amazing team who sincerely care about your personal and career growth. They're experienced vets of SV, so no first timers figuring their way around. The working team are also rock stars.

Cons

The office is top notch, but the location in San Mateo leaves much to be desired. Zero options to walk for food outside the office if you wanted to take a break from the free food, which of course is an awesome benefit in itself.

Thanks much for the kind words! We understand that the location may not be ideal when it comes to walkable lunch options, but free is always a good thing!
