Pros

Start-up environment but with the stability of a larger company Rational allows employees to contribute and have a direct impact on the products and technology. It's a fun and challenging environment that has made a lot of very positive changes over the last year and is moving in the right direction with both the technology and the work environment.

Cons

Some of the benefits could be a little better such as more vacation time and maybe a 401k contribution (but I guess that's a general downside of a smaller company).

Their days are numbered

Pros

Proximity to Stuyvesant Plaza and thruway Some genuinely good people in all departments Some genuinely good people in leadership/management roles (just 2 that I can think of)

Cons

Where does one begin? The company lowballs just about everybody that isn't in a management position which is why they can't attract any new development. They are now outsourcing development to India and are using any developers foolish enough to take a job there as "handlers" for the off-shore teams. Developers make MUCH LESS here than anywhere else in the industry, while management makes boatloads of money. Anybody worth their salt who does come aboard with lofty ideals and a positive outlook quickly have this positivity crushed out of them and end up fleeing before long. There is no longer a CEO at the company. Now it is just run by... Who knows? The owner occasionally shows up to send management scurrying before going off to foresee the building of his yacht. This same management only accepts agreement and not critique of their actions which has sent the company further downhill. They have been firing more people than they hire and losing more clients than the can attract which makes a person think that the company has months rather than years of life left. They have also been giving "percentages of the sale" (the company's business model is to be sold to a bigger company to give any management that has a stake in the company a big payday) instead of bonuses to their own management which is a sign that they probably do not expect to get sold at this rate and it beats giving actual bonuses! If you dig through the reviews of this company you will find some positive ones. They are almost certainly feeble attempts at managers (and the couple people who, whether by luck or whatever weird reason, have hung on for years and are actually valued [two people?]). One of the reviews was from the CFO... who was fired for reasons that were never made clear to anybody. Most decisions are made behind closed doors leaving everyone in the dark. If you wish to work in a company where you are treated like a bothersome impediment and where they pinch pennies to forestall the inevitable while promoting sycophants then RE is the company for you!
