Pros

Because there are many former educators on staff, Reading Partners has a fantastic culture of learning and improvement. The program is wonderful and the significant program structure that's been built over the years means it's scalable and great for plugging in AmeriCorps members and volunteers.

Cons

During the time I was there, I was exceeding goals and performing very highly, but was paid significantly under market. I do think that at least at that time, there was some taking advantage of mission-driven younger professionals. Similarly work/life balance was poor at that time. There was no way to be successful in your role without night and weekend work.

Pros

You feel like the work you're doing is extremely important and needed. You have Professional Development days that are dedicated to making us more knowledgable. You have opportunities to take on leadership roles. Your coworkers are like-minded people. Everyone works together as a team and managers are extremely understanding and down to Earth.

Cons

Living stipend is extremely hard to live off of.
