Pros

Creative, self-starting environment. Although I came in with little to no technical understanding of the products, the team has been helpful and accommodating in explaining the world of embedded systems to me. I'm appreciating the opportunity to work in a state of the art office that has 3d printers, a laser engraver, and a screen printing machine. From my experience, it's rare that this level of growth and development of new skills are encouraged in an in-house design position.

Cons

If you can't keep up with the pace of startup culture, wear several hats, or self-manage timelines and set reasonable work-life boundaries for yourself, RBS may not be the place for you.

Red Balloon Security has a world class team of embedded devices research team. Working on a very engaging, dynamic, and collaborative environment is you day to day. Management ensures that everyone is part of company wins and successes. The company culture is very unique and you truly enjoy working here, to the point that people socialize after work-hours. After been in the consulting space for more than 7 years, this is an unique opportunity...the once in a lifetime job you will find like this.

Diversity Group with large potential

Pros

Based in mid town manhattan, the company provides a diverse environment. You can work with top of the line scientists and engineers from all over the world which is rare and valuable in the computer security industry. You can get hands on every stuff in the company in a very short time. Red Balloon sponsors employees go to DefCon and SummerCon every year and we usually have talk in these conference. RBS provides a lot of support when you are working deeply and intensely on research.

Cons

Sometimes it is hard to get work life balance. Projects sometimes get very demanding but no one on the teams complain about it because we learn a lot and it is rewarding.
