Pros

One of the few companies interested in defending embedded devices. Great at training skills and developing new techniques. Willing to try exciting and new things in the research space even if the commercial viability of the research is not immediate. Often includes hands-on work and is always willing to invest in tools for the future. Regular office barbecues and parties are a plus.

Cons

There is occasional tunnel vision when completing deadlines. The office is an engineer's paradise - which also means it can get quite chaotic and messy.

Exciting engineering and research to improve embedded security

Pros

Lots of occasions to learn about security: vulnerabilities and mitigations. Opportunities to work for various industries: automotive, industry, space, etc. Research is valued: you can explore things even if they don't turn into immediate revenue for the company. Working remote works great for me because my teammates make it work, and are always here to help me with in-office tasks.

Cons

Being part of small project teams means, you have to be comfortable working in autonomy, but co-workers are always happy to give you a pair of fresh eyes on a particular problem. Historically, documentation has not been a priority, but this is now improving.

Chance to work on leading edge embedded device security and make a difference in critical infrastructure. Fun environment, flexibility in work hours, talented team to work with.

Cons

A smaller company working to drive a market forwards so can be hectic and not a place to be if you are looking for something more established.
