Pros

Nice swag Some fun and smart people Great concept - open source Nice new digs downtown

Cons

Political Old guards or "connected" rule Bad behavior seems to get many promoted Very spin focused culture lacking substance Open source behavior is not happening consistently Underpays significantly and does not pay more as they quadruple your work - no regular evaluations based on continued expansion of responsibilities (this may also happen while you watch the person next to you do nothing) Very difficult to attain work life balance - all depends on your manager - 90% are not supportive of this Fast paced to the point of chaos Too much shifting priorities/roles; job can end at any moment where someone makes up a new one for you or you disappear Many managers lack professionalism and basic collegial respect to peers and underlings High drama

Not the same company I joined

Pros

Cutting-edge technology, there are some great people

Cons

When the current Chief People Officer joined Red Hat, the company changed. She brought her chosen few from Cisco who do not understand what Red Hat is and the culture that has existed for over 20 years. While I understand the need to scale, these individuals from Cisco have ruined the company I grew to love. There is no more open culture, the people in leadership roles have not taken the training such as "Right for Red Hat" that is made to exemplify open culture and what it means to be a Red Hatter. Under current leadership, the great culture of Red Hat will continue to be absorbed into IBM until Red Hat is unidentifiable and an even uglier culture than it is today.

Great if you are a loner

Pros

Good benefits, good pay, good career growth

Cons

If you like working on a team, you won't like working here. For bragging about being open and collaborative, this place is the most isolating work environment I've ever been apart of. It is all lip service. Few employees actually like helping or sharing, they just feel obligated to and you can feel it.
