Pros

Red Hat is great place to work, if you're someone who likes to push themselves forward, create your on thing and make your own calculated risks. The company has a great future, built on solid re-occurring revenue model and is not dependent on any VC funding rounds. This model allows them to hire thousands of software engineers who work on upstream open source projects.

Cons

For me, very little. Most of the reviews on here that mark working for red hat as unsatisfactory, are likely to be sales / services personal, who find it hard to adjust to the culture (having had former careers at IBM, Oracle etc). I have also heard the middleware consultants tend to get burned out quickly. Red Hat is very much an Engineers company at heart.

Pros

Red Hat is a dynamic and passionate place to work. They invest in their employees and promote from within.

Cons

Recent politics, power plays and dishonest conduct at exec level causing good employees to suffer or leave. HR is aware but seems to turn a blind eye to behavior and the retaliation of accused against reporters

Pros

Some time in the city Don't have to be in the office near managers too often

Cons

Management was dull, getting new talentless people Said innovative company with good management and worklife, more like dark ages and overly stressed If dont' get good technical people soon, will lose any edge Said customers were idiots and not to talk over their heads Creative ideas flushed down the tubes, heard only bad marketing and saw stepping on people No vision, just do what told by people that know less than you Salary is a problem, don't get good people without paying market rates Never seen such risk averse people, be afraid to say anything wrong, but more likely to be them Wouldn't know a good idea from a sink full of dishes Highly discriminatory, hard to believe you're not getting sued over mistreatment
