      Inspiring, fun place to work... but burn-out levels are high.

      Pros

      You get to work with awesome people (for the most part), and you get to do work that's interesting. A lot of respect for intelligent people, and you're encouraged to work on your own project ideas.

      Cons

      Can be mentally exhausting. Hard to not work 70 hour weeks. Always pressure to be bigger, better, more, greater. No work-life balance allowed.

      Great technology but be aware senior management more like a family business

      Pros

      To be part of the Open Source movement and doing some genuinely innovative things rather than just donkey work at an old time employer like Microsoft.

      Cons

      Many of the senior management are close friends or relatives meaning nepotism is rife at this 2000 person company, with an over representation of NC "mafia." Old CEO had vision, was the last of the old guard to cash in chips and leave. Now the CEO's some guy from Delta who'll help cut costs, lay off folks and generally lift share price at the expense of everything else.

      Red Hat, a place to work if you want to change the world!

      Pros

      It's a place where you can really make a change in this world! With so many companies being a true example of "the office" Red Hat is one of the few places where an individual has no limits to what they can do. Being the leader in open source creates some truly different views inside the company, with a "can do" attitude flourishing. There is no task to big and no competitor to scary.

      Cons

      Sometimes pressure is high and it is a VERY fast changing environment - so don't come here if you don't like change :). Red Hat firmly believes in eating it's own dog food - so expect to get a culture shock if you came from a cushy MS world filled with Windows, Office & Exchange.
