Pros

Fully open sourced company from personal decisions to management

Cons

Company recently got acquired by IBM. IBM is implementing rules that is taking away the company’s open culture.

Pros

Overall, this is the best company I have worked for, software or otherwise. I really appreciate all of the compensation, benefits, paid training, certifications, etc. I love the open culture of Red Hat to encourage the best idea to win and build the best solutions. I love working for a highly respected company in the software global world. I learn something new everyday! Honestly, my managers make this the best place to me though. Even though I always want to change and improve things and we have to deal with all of the business pressures, my managers keep insisting that I keep pushing to make our processes better over time. They always treat me with respect. My team is also pretty amazing. People are the main reason I love Red Hat.

Cons

My biggest concern with Red Hat, and the only reason I don't give 5 Stars, is because of how leadership at the top (and throughout Red Hat) seem to strongly side one way over really embracing open culture from all sides. I struggle with that on a company wide basis. Let's be open for everyone, not just the agenda that other company politics are paying for. All of that said, however, I mostly feel accepted by my closer peers at work. This is still the best company I have worked for and I am grateful.

Pros

Fast-paced, challenging and high growth culture. Compensation is at market rates when you join (depending on YOE @ Red Hat, you may find yourself falling below fair market rates for the role).

Cons

Sink or swim approach to onboarding. Roles are unfocused and responsibility is broad so can get spread thin while covering the entire product portfolio. Compensation is at market rates (depending on YOE @ Red Hat, you may find yourself falling below fair market rates for the role). Slow and limited career progression -- must jump through hoops and bend over backwards simultaneously in order to be promoted. As a minority, DEI is just an acronym that gets touted on company broadcasts.
