Pros

Great opportunities to contribute to open source. Open source/free software is in their DNA. You are not just writing code, you are collaborating with the best in the world and making the world a better place. Fair compensation. Accomplishments are recognized and rewarded. Sane work hours. Management that has a technical background and works with you. Little to no office politics.

Cons

Many departments are silos.

Pros

Commitment to the larger software community, freedom to define your role

Cons

Red Hat is losing sight of their actual useful products as they attempt to grow as a company, and part of the attempts to shift some expensive also-rans to the forefront has been an amount of chaos in management. Also the recruiters will just straight up lie to you about benefits; get everything in writing.
