Lack of communication and terrible company ethics.

I was in the restaurant industry for many years. I believe that consistency in standards is vital to a restaurant’s success. When someone goes to a restaurant, they want friendly service, and to expect the exact same food every time. No one wants to worry if they’ll get a “good” burger this time or not. RR definitely meets those standards. It’s the rest of it that is ridiculous. There’s no opportunity to give the customers any kind of personalized service. You are nothing but a human robot. Must take drink order in x minutes. Must have drinks to them in x minutes. Must get order from them as fast as possible. As soon as they have their food, drop the check. Get them to pay ASAP because your schedule depends on it. The faster you turn tables the better your schedule and work hours will be. That is totally unfair to people depending on their job to pay bills because it’s based on how long a customer stays. Some servers had 13 minute cash out times- from seating to paying. They got the good shifts always. I’m more into keeping the customer and upselling, giving them a fun time out, appetizers, dinner, drinks, dessert! Better time for the customer, more money for the restaurant, more money for me. Here, when they order dessert you’re about to cry because your ticket time is going to make you get the part time crap shift again. It destroyed every fiber of my being to try to get payment after they’ve had three bites. It was gross. I absolutely hated the forced tip outs that servers had to pay based off of sales. Servers should not have to use their income to pay everyone else that’s working the same shift. It’s not like we can claim that money loss as a business expense. Restaurants should pay their employees a fair wage and not FORCE servers to do this. All RR’s have these policies. It’s was always hectic and chaotic and super stressful. And nothing is worse than being a single parent and having to use your tips to pay other people when you need every single dime to pay rent, bills, and feed your children. If you are young and needing a job where you don’t have to worry about how much you make then go for it. The corporate robot philosophy was not for me.
