Pros

-Decent benefits, perks, and salary. -Free iPad. -3 monitors at work (2x 23" 1080p secondaries, 1x 30" 2560x1600 primary). -18 days of vacation. -5 days of vacation can be sold back to the company every year. -Day after Thanksgiving and week between Christmas and New Years are company holidays. -Free lunch once a month. Soda/juice/coffee/water always free. -Business is growing and making money. -Good company values. -Good company culture. -No pressure to attend happy hours, parties, or to donate to x-y-z causes.

Cons

-CEO not willing to have work from home options, EVER. -Sick days come out of your 18 days of vacation. -No work / life balance, especially if you commute from the suburbs. -Lots of young, inexperienced employees. -Annoying QA manager that consumes peoples' work hours. -No real career paths. -You won't really learn much if you already have several years of experience; not much to put on resume.

Pros

This is a company is great. It is one of the best places to work in Chicago. It's got a small company feel. You can go into the CEO's office and have a normal conversation about anything without worry. Everyone is open and relaxed but hard working as well. This company also provides everyone with the tools they need to do their jobs. Devs have brand new 12 core machines with 32GB of RAM and 30 inch monitors. Everyone gets an iPad when they start. There's also fruit deliveries twice a week, happy hour every month and an atmosphere that is fun and enjoyable. You also get 18 days off, including sick days, but what's great is you don't have to use your sick days when you're sick. You can also sell back hours for extra paycheck or move it to the next year. And we get the whole week from Christmas to New Years off!

Cons

You are required to work 9 hour days with an hour lunch in between. It's not very flexible with hours. The work itself isn't the most exciting, it is litigation software after all.

Pros

The people who work here are fantastic. Smart, hard-working - everything you might hope for in colleagues. They also have perks like free breakfasts, happy hours and a holiday break - all good perks if you don't know any better.

Cons

The company's entire business model is built on reacting to problems instead of thinking strategically about what should come next. I truly believe this will be it's undoing if they don't change their thinking. Their CEO has way too much control. There is no board or other governing body to serve as a check/balance system against his impulsive and destructive behaviors and decisions. They don't value experienced perspectives that challenge the executive team, as much as they need those different points-of-view. The CEO has surrounded himself with yes men - they value keeping the CEO happy above everything else, including the happiness of the people that work at the company. Don't work here. They won't value or appreciate your efforts - you will be expendable.
