Pros

Fun, young company culture. Good technology and some very smart engineers who are willing to show you the ropes. Unlimited PTO (yay!) with permission of your manager (usually not a problem.)

Cons

Some managers are great, others not. Promotions and transfers are very difficult. HR will not back you up. Most benefits don't really kick in until the second year. Pay is not competitive.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. In general, promotions and transfers should not be difficult, but not sure about your particular situation. We do request roles to be posted if it is a role that others could possibly be interested in - this is a fair process so all can apply for the role. Otherwise, in-seat promotions happen for those within a defined career path based on experience and achieved skills in-seat. Couple of points of clarity - most of our benefits kick in within 30 days...however, 401k matching and parental leaves do require tenure, which would align with your statement above. We do teach professional communication and empathy skills and emphasize this in first-level manager training - please check this out in our curriculums online. Lastly, please let the HR team know if you are experiencing bullying in the workforce. In no way should this be happening in the business - and our Insights communication tool should not be part of this. These communication styles are meant to help conversations in the business, not "label" people. Happy to chat directly with anyone who has questions/concerns about this.

Pros

The People at Relias are genuinely great people to work with. Pretty flexible work/life balance. Direct managers are approachable and easy to talk to.

Cons

Organization as a whole is pretty dysfunctional. Product Department is a mess. Engineers never get time to work on tech debt, system improvements, etc. Always focusing on adding even more functionality from acquired products to an extremely overburdened system. On top of that, Relias insists they hire the best people but also insist on paying less then or equal to the 50th percentile for your pay band, which is definitely not competitive for the RTP area or for remote positions.

Pros

SLS used to be a pretty great place to work until we got sold last year. Salaries were pretty good for Charlottesville, we had a lot of autonomy in our work and management really cared about the employees and customers as people.

Cons

Now they're moving the headquarters to the sales office and anyone who doesn't want to move is on the street. They're replacing all the veterans with recent college grads (read, cheaper). It may turn out ok for the new folks, but who knows? 75% of the company will be new hires. Expect to be a replaceable cog in the wheel.
