Great company and culture navigating change in a dynamic market
Pros
Overall, ResMed is a fantastic place to work. I've been working here for 3 years, and I always feel like I'm constantly challenged and supported by everyone around me. Some of the things that really stand out to me about ResMed are: - Sincerity of employees and genuine desire to help others: ResMed is so unique in that every employee truly wants what's best for other employees. People are genuinely interested in helping others learn, grow, and ultimately succeed in their careers which is pretty rare to find. - Opportunities to switch teams/functions: another unique thing about ResMed is the support for individuals to make lateral moves, switch teams, and explore other areas of the business. There are many managers who have seen and experienced different aspects of the business, which helps with collaboration, communication, and visibility. If you work hard and deliver value, you will be supported anywhere you want to go. - Global company: if you want experience working on cross-functional teams in different parts of the world, ResMed is the perfect company to do so. There are a lot of market dynamics I deal with on a daily basis, which can make things challenging but also very rewarding when you get it right. I have traveled to many different countries, and got to work with unique individuals across the business that have helped me grow not only in my career, but as a person too. - Leadership visibility: It's rare to work at a large global organization and have the ability to meet your Founder/CEO, let alone ride an elevator with them and learn about their life. Leadership walks around the office, chats to employees, and genuinely cares that everyone is happy. They are adamant about employees feeling comfortable going to them with problems which (I think) is awesome.
Cons
Obviously, there is always room for improvement at a large global organization. I'd say three areas that need improvement are: - Embracing change: Change is necessary, but it's not easy. There have been a few organizational restructures that I personally feel like may not have been handled with the highest integrity. - Inconsistency with management: I've experienced this with every company I've worked for, but I find that some people get pushed into management roles that either 1) may not be ready for a managerial position or 2) don't want to be a people manager. This leads to inconsistencies between manager expectations, communication, and team morale/collaboration.
