Pros

minimum exposure to a bunch of frameworks you can learn on your own

Cons

As others have said, the benefits are a bit of a scam. No matching 401K, they take part of your minimum wage and stick you in a townhouse with up to 5 other people so that housing isn't even subsidized. You end up with less than Virginia's minimum wage. Unrealistic project requirements on absurd deadlines and a seat-of-the-pants style of instruction that has everything on a pretty floaty schedule. You're not guaranteed a position afterward as they will tell you over the phone. You have to go through interviews based on a review packet that actually has you memorizing and reciting code so some dudes in India can try to send you to somewhere in the Bay Area on contract for less than 50K/year. Many former trainees end up having to room with each other at their work locations just to scrape by. They promise lofty salaries in little time, but those are conditional on the work you get signed up for, and you don't get a choice of who to work for. You could be spending a year fixing javascript on old websites rather than building a new backend at Square. After you do your panel (if you even got into a java or .NET batch), you could spend weeks in "staging", a sort of purgatory where you wait for their people to find you interviews. They used to have this one blue room with a glorified babysitter where everybody was supposed to sit and wait. They had to be persuaded to let people sit in other empty spaces just to not lose their minds. Don't expect anything in the way of workers' rights at this place, because it's just a bunch of hustle porn the whole way through.

Pros

Connections to the job market

Cons

This is a SWEATSHOP coding situation. The CEO and staff are hustlers who peddle future job prospects to make a killing off of all of their poorly trained associates. The training is lacking at best... They pretty much make you train yourself and then penalize you if you don't meet their requirements. What you'll find is Indentured servitude here folks and a bad business model with a company culture that is the puppy-mill of software engineers. You have no say in what you will learn and there is no guarantee you'll get a job in software development. Some people have been forced into jobs that are closer to data entry and not dev jobs. Anyone in their right mind should do their research and learn about the company from places other than their website... and then choose something else. There are so many ways to get into software development. This is by far the worst way to get in and if I had known what I know now, I would've chosen differently.

Pros

Great training, experience and prep for the industry. Good place to make connections with like minded individuals in the field Excellent interview practice/feedback Fantastic program for obtaining certifications

Cons

No free time during training (Weekends, after class are spent on projects and test study.) No room for catch up if you miss something. Little leniency or understanding. (If you do not meet the mark, there is no extra help, you will just get dropped.) Dress code expects you to be business professional every Monday, and business casual the rest of the week, with casual Fridays. (no compensation for buying/maintaining suits.) When deployed to a client, individuals must find their own place. (If stint with client is short, there is no compensation for the rest of a month long lease that will not be used.) Limited travel compensation of $250 when driving. No additional compensation for standard living essentials when you fly. You are obligated to do all interviews, and accept all positions that you are given, even if it is not the job you wanted, or does not provide the experience you need for the industry. (Niche batches are susceptible to this.)
