      abundance of resources and friendly environment

      Pros

      beautiful and safe campus, a lot of lab space, especially at the BRC building, friendly co-workers, easy access to advisor in my case, close to the medical center for biomedical research collaboration

      Cons

      small community so sometimes limited online subscription, sometimes hard to find people who do similar kind of research outside the lab

      Pros

      Houston is cheap so the payment for a grad student here will actually make your life easier than your counterparts in other US cities. There is no fixed schedule so you can devote your free time to other activities.

      Cons

      You don't know if you are a student or an employee and this doesn't feel good at all. But it's like with all grad schools.
