Mixed Bag, great pay, poor office culture

Pros

Work was varied and interesting. Pay was great.

Cons

Office culture was very good old boy with a dash of fratboy thrown in. Lots of male ego and swagger thrown around the office. Poor communication of goals and expectations. Wasn't given utilization expectations until months after starting, even though my performance was being measured by these metrics. Poor feedback communications. Only receiving feedback weeks/months after the fact. Criticized for mistakes in projects that I never worked on or were assigned to. Particularly egregious given that the billing system lists exactly who performed what on a project. Paid monthly.

Pros

Good intentions, but good intentions only go so far in the grand scheme of reality. The pay was ok if you like doing 3 jobs for the price of 1.

Cons

The lack of training is atrocious. "Wing it" is pretty much the company motto and that is exactly how you proceed through your day with the bare bones minimum, unprofessional, unorganized, hit and run type training you receive before you are launched to the wolves on your own. You only learn from your mistakes because management lacks knowledge and leadership and is therefore ignored when trying to convince the team to do anything they are supposed to do. If you take the initiative to independently problem solve, you are ostracized for it, yet no one has the time or proper steps established, everyone has their own little rules which often leaves you confused and constantly backpedaling. The systems are outdated and frequently crash, causing much down time, then catching up is a daunting task company wide. No suggestions are taken into consideration on how to better the system and work flow. A few of the departments are not team players, which greatly effects the company goals. Some coworkers are puffed up with their own importance and their personalities are a real yawn, laughter is almost non existent here. You don't even need a license for most of the work they do, it's simple common sense. They promise the clients the sky but don't deliver on deadlines due to incompetence and an unreasonable workload so you are then expected to do twice the work your peers do by squeezing in an extra job, which a department already exists for, just so they don't have to wait in line like the rest of the company.

Pros

Work at Rimkus is incredibly varied and interesting. Forensic work draws from many trades allowing a lot of on the job learning. Work also involves travel to interesting places. The assets of Rimkus ensure that there are other professionals to support your projects.

Cons

Sometimes schedules are demanding. Sometimes odd projects require you to go a little out of your comfort zone, but that is when you learn the most.
